After devastating Kona storms overwhelmed hundreds of families, small businesses, and farms, our community is working to rebuild.
Many of our neighbors, friends, kūpuna, keiki, and farmers woke in the night to floodwaters, with some forced to swim or paddle to safety. By morning, many were facing the loss of everything they had worked so hard to build.
In true North Shore spirit, the community stepped up — neighbors rescuing neighbors and volunteers showing up from across the island. But the devastation is vast, and our community is exhausted after multiple storms hit one after another.

Back-to-back Kona storms dumped over 30 inches of rain across the North Shore. Floodwaters rose four feet in forty minutes — mud reached five feet deep inside homes. Over 344 farms and ranches are reporting losses totaling $18.9 million, and only 3% of Hawaii's farms carry crop insurance.
These families, farmers, and small businesses are our neighbors. They supply local markets, restaurants, and communities with food and services you can't get anywhere else. The devastation is vast and our community is exhausted — but together, we can rebuild.
233 life-saving rescues. 5,500 residents evacuated. Hundreds of homes damaged. Every volunteer and every dollar makes a real difference.

Not at all. Most cleanup and rebuilding tasks are general labor — clearing debris, moving materials, basic repairs. Farmers will guide you on the day. Specialized skills are a bonus, not a requirement.
Sturdy closed-toe shoes, work gloves, sunscreen, a hat, water, and a packed lunch. If you have your own tools (shovels, rakes, etc.), bring them along — but farms will have basics available.
