Our Alahe‘e varietal comes from the Ka‘ū Desert, on the southernmost edge of the Big Island—a place where beauty meets extremes. This blossom faces stiff competition in the wild, often overshadowed by the ever-abundant ʻŌhiʻa Lehua, a more dominant and common source of nectar for island bees.
For Alahe‘e to truly shine, the conditions must align perfectly—enough seasonal rainfall to encourage a healthy bloom and strong nectar production, without being eclipsed by the ʻŌhiʻa’s overwhelming presence. It’s a rare and delicate balance, and when it happens, it’s the only time we’re able to harvest this elusive varietal.
The result is a honey with a lingering, nuanced flavor that reflects the extraordinary circumstances of its creation. If you spot it, don’t wait—it’s a true Big Island delicacy.
