Buy direct from 2 producers in the Palouse, with 57 products listed today.
The Palouse is rolling dryland farm country in southeast Washington and north Idaho. Whitman County, Washington, had 933 farms in 2022. It grew about 498,000 acres of wheat and 69,000 acres of chickpeas, plus canola, barley and lentils. Latah County, Idaho, grows wheat, chickpeas and canola too. The region is a leading U.S. area for pulse crops such as lentils, dry peas and chickpeas. Direct sales are small. Only 5 percent of farms in both counties sell directly to consumers. Buying direct from a Palouse grower is uncommon and worth seeking out.
